Eagle Hill School Goes Live with Atrium Campus Card Solution

Eagle Hill School went live in September with a new Atrium campus card solution. Feedback from parents, students and Eagle Hill School staff has been excellent.

Eagle Hill School is a private co-educational college preparatory boarding school in Hardwick, Massachusetts, established in 1967.  Eagle Hill School educates students identified with learning disabilities by providing an intimate and encouraging community that honors the individual, values learning diversity, and cultivates international mindedness.

Eagle Hill School's goals for this project included:

• Improving the parent experience around tuition payment and managing student account
• Improving the student experience around managing allowances, student store charges and trips
• Streamlining and automating manual administrative work processes

The Atrium campus card solution includes:

  • StudentLink for Parents - pay online for tuition and manage student accounts from a mobile responsive web app.  Atrium integrates with Eagle Hill School's Intacct general ledger system to provide this seamless solution.  Parents log into StudentLink using Blackbaud Single Sign On.
  • StudentLink for Students - access their allowance from a cash dispensing kiosk using their smartphone or a physical ID card.  Students can also pay for goods at the Student Store.
  • Atrium for Admins - web portal that allows Eagle Hill School staff to manage and reconcile the student accounts, including a rich reporting engine and the ability to effect manual and bulk student transactions.

Tammy Johnson, President & CEO of Atrium, said of the project, “Eagle Hill School had a vision to improve their parent and student experience with respect to tuition payment and management of student accounts.  We partnered with Eagle Hill School and WipFli, who provided a new Intacct general ledger system.  We are excited about the very positive feedback from parents and students.  We look forward to bringing this solution to other private high schools."

Colorado College Partners with Atrium in the Shadow of the Rockies

Atrium is pleased to announce it is partnering with Colorado College to provide a next generation campus card solution.

The Colorado College (CC) is a private liberal arts college in Colorado Springs, Colorado, United States, near the foot of the Rocky Mountains. It was founded in 1874 by Thomas Nelson Haskell in his daughter's memory. The college enrolls approximately 2,000 undergraduates at its 90-acre (36 ha) campus, 70 miles (110 km) south of Denver. The college offers 42 majors and 33 minors, and has a student-faculty ratio of 10:1.

The Colorado College Atrium solution comprises over six best-in-breed systems, including a new Vivonet Cloud POS (point of sale), Valid ID Cloud card production, ITC Laundry Master, Banner connection, Castles merchant readers for off campus merchants and attendance tracking, Barnes & Noble Bookstore point of sale connection, and Atrium StudentLink online account management.

Tammy Johnson, President and CEO of Atrium, said of the partnership, “Colorado College wanted a modern, non-proprietary, cloud hosted campus card solution that would allow them to both reduce costs and improve cardholder services as compared to their legacy card system. We are excited to work with them to provide a modern alternative campus card solution.”  Tammy continues, “Colorado College also valued that with Atrium, they could select the transactional endpoints that best meet their needs.  We helped them evaluate point of sale (POS) and card production options which led to Atrium providing a new Vivonet Cloud POS and Valid ID Cloud card production system.”

Atrium Powers Iris Scanners at University of Georgia

University of Georgia's next generation Atrium UGACard solution includes twenty (20) new Iris scanners for their dining venues.

While the Iris scanners were provided by an Atrium Partner, an Atrium App runs on Raspberry Pi's and authenticates card holders using a light pole and turnstile to admit or deny entry.

Other institutions have deployed Iris scanners, but they have typically been connected to Point of Sale systems, where transaction response times range from 2-4 seconds.

UGA felt this transaction response time was too slow and would lead to long lines, given their large size.

Atrium came up with an innovative, low cost solution which boasts transactional responsive times of less than a second. In addition to being very fast, the Atrium App supports offline operation.

This solution has both improved dining operations and the student experience.

Tammy Johnson, President & CEO of Atrium, said of this solution, “The Iris Scanner solution we provided to UGA reinforces the power, flexibility and cost-effectiveness of an open, non-proprietary campus card solution.  This same solution is now available to other clients and supports a myriad of use cases, including recreation sports centers and attendance tracking.  In addition to supporting Iris scanners, the Atrium App supports any USB reader including mag stripe, barcode and contactless cards.”

NYU Goes Live with Atrium’s Meal Plan Portal

New York University (NYU) has gone live with Atrium's StudentLink Meal Plan Portal. Student focus group and NYU staff feedback has been excellent. Over 11,500 students and employees are using the new portal.

Founded in 1831, New York University is now one of the largest private universities in the United States. From a student body of 158 during NYU's very first semester, enrollment has grown to more than 50,000 students at three degree-granting campuses in New York City, Abu Dhabi, and Shanghai, and at study away sites in Africa, Asia, Australia, Europe, North and South America.

NYUManaging the initial assignment, change and cancellation of meal plans and the associating billing is a complex process at universities and colleges. It is especially complex at NYU given their size and global footprint. NYU has over 23 meal plans (plus Dining Dollar add-ons). Meal plan eligibility, pricing, changes, proration, rollovers and exceptions vary across over 16 different participant groups. Billing management requires connectivity with two different systems of record (Peoplesoft and WorkDay).

NYU's key goals for the StudentLink Meal Plan Portal included:

• Improving the student meal plan management experience using an ADA compliant user interface
• Reducing the indirect and direct costs involved in the meal plan management business process

This project was the ultimate partnership with NYU and StudentLink personnel working closely over several months as a single team.
Tammy Johnson, President of Atrium, said of the partnership, “We greatly value our long-term partnership with New York University. When the opportunity arose to work with them to reimagine their meal plan management process we jumped at it. They have a passionate, highly skilled team and we are
very pleased with the results of this project."

Zippin and Atrium Campus bring the future of convenience to Towson University

New Tiger Express store uses AI and other technology to enhance shopping experience

Towson, Maryland (Nov. 1, 2023) — Towson University today announced the grand opening of Tiger Express. It’s an innovative checkout-free store located in West Village Commons made possible through a groundbreaking partnership between Zippin and Atrium Campus. Open 24/7, the store ushered in a new era of convenience offering round-the-clock, frictionless shopping to the entire TU community. It stocks a variety of essentials, including snacks, drinks, packaged meals, personal care products and more, ensuring students can find what they need at any time.

“The convenience offered by Tiger Express makes it easier for our students to purchase what they need, when they need it,” says Dr. Vernon Hurte, vice president of student affairs. “The unique shopping experience will cut down on long lines and wait times that students typically faced here.”

Tiger Express marks the first checkout-free college store to combine Zippin’s checkout-free technology with the Atrium Campus card management solution. OneCard holders such as students, faculty and staff shopping at the store can choose between paying with Dining Dollars or Doc Dollars. The store also accepts credit cards. This unique flexibility provides a more seamless experience than with other checkout-free providers that require a mobile app to shop.

Zippin uses AI-powered cameras and sensors to accurately track purchases, eliminating the need for a traditional checkout. While the technology is advanced, the shopping experience is simple. Students, faculty/ staff and guests simply enter the store with a valid payment method, pick what they want, and zip out. There’s no checkout line, no self-scanning kiosk, and no hassle. After shopping, receipts are available on the Towson OneCard portal or the Zippin microsite, depending on payment type.

“What makes our approach unique is our ability to give students complete choice in how they pay,” said Krishna Motukuri, CEO and co-founder of Zippin. “Through our partnership with Atrium Campus, Towson University students, faculty and staff can shop with their campus cards – something they use almost everywhere else on campus – and even choose between Doc Dollars and Dining Dollars. It’s a better checkout-free experience, which helps Towson University stand out as a technology leader in higher education.”

Store results prove the value of supporting campus cards. To date, 80% of Tiger Express sales have been with OneCards.

“Enabling campus payments at check-out free stores is another example of how Atrium Campus is reimagining the campus card experience for the mobile generation,” said Tammy Johnson, Atrium Campus President and CEO. “Through our partnership with Towson University and Zippin, we developed a solution that met Towson’s specific requirements and achieved their goal of providing a better commerce experience for their campus community.”

Tiger Express is not a new store. It’s been operational for several years and renovated into a checkout- free shop this year. Previously open 28 hours a week, it is now open 24/7 providing students with vastly improved access, including a door with direct access to outside the building.

“I really like the new store and it being open 24 hours is really helpful. I ran out of cereal once and was able to quickly get some more, even past the building hours,” says student Briana Francis ‘24. “It’s a really good addition to the campus and it’s super accessible.”

For media inquiries, please reach out to Jamie Abell, jaabell@towson.edu.
